The strawberry has French origin and the first varieties are from the early eighteenth century. This fruit is characterized by an intense aroma and a sweet flavor.
The strawberry has a deep red color and has a stalk with a small bunch of leaves; its surface is covered by yellow or brown dots.
It belongs to Rosaceae family which includes about 12 species. Strawberry prefers temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere, the Andes and some islands in the Southern Hemisphere.
Its scientific name, Fragaria, is derived from the Latin word “fragrans” (fragrant). Flowering may occur in different seasons, depending on the species and varieties.
